Frequently asked questions
We have more than one Kindness Kit option. Most are packed with personal care in mind, others geared toward feminine hygiene or home hygiene products.
An example of a Kindness Kit:
Personal Care (Basics): soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, comb in a resealable plastic bag.
Period Pack: tampons, overnight maxi pads, thin maxi pads, panty liners, disposable wipes (3), small plastic bag all packaged in a resealable plastic bag or paper lunch bag.
We like to add upgrades on a rotating calendar. Upgrades may include lotion or lip balm in fall/winter months, nail clippers, a cosmetic bag or washcloth in the period pack or a laundry upgrade in the home pack. As funding grows, some of our upgrades could become regular inserts.

Yes, as long as they are unused.
As long as each individual item is sealed or wrapped, we can accept open boxes of period products.
No, we only accept essential hygiene products that are required for good health and wellness.
No, we only accept new amenities. However, another nonprofit called Clean the World works with hotels to collect used soap, recycle it and providing it to those in-need around the globe.
Limited access to hygiene products can be detrimental to both mental and physical health. Not only can a lack of hygiene product availability worsen chronic illnesses by posing barriers to treatment adherence, that same lack of hygiene can have life-long effects on a person’s self-worth and self-respect. This can mean that children growing up in hygiene insecure households can struggle to end the cycle of poverty through successful employment.

We are Healing Rooms. Our desire is to see people whole and healed, both physically and emotionally. If providing access to hygiene products helps individuals and households improve their quality of life and health, it is a program we want to explore and in this case spearhead in our community.
Our initial goal - support the area we live in and our neighboring counties. With that in mind we currently support organizations in Washington County and Saunders County in Nebraska plus Harrison County in Iowa.
Support levels depend on support from the community (as product donations from a specific community generally stay in that community) AND on the number of people served by a communities food pantry. Based on population and food pantry numbers, we anticipate Washington County will receive more than 60% of our support throughout early 2023.
Coming soon - Monona County, Iowa and Burt County, Nebraska with potential support to select organizations in Dodge and Douglas counties.
Beginning in 2023, the products and kits we gather are provided to our partner agencies for distribution.
Our list of partner agencies will continue to grow and be updated on our website. Watch for names like Joseph's Coat, some local churches and schools and others that people in need already utilize. Our delivery method enhances local programs and services while eliminating the need for people to coordinate an extra stop to obtain needed toiletries.
